In a small town called Temecula, I came across a rare find in an antique shop that I had never seen before in China - Qing Dynasty women's bound feet shoes. It instantly gave me a sense of surrealism as if I had traveled back in time!!
In China, we have heard of the practice of foot binding during the Qing Dynasty, where women were considered beautiful with three-inch golden lotus feet. However, this practice would cause the feet to become deformed and unsightly, making it a traditional cultural taboo that has long been abolished.
The craftsmanship of the shoes I saw this time was incredibly exquisite. Despite their small size, only about the size of a young child's feet, they have been preserved remarkably well over the years with minimal damage. The shop owner even offered them at an honest price 😂 - a pair for only $225.
